Great Central and Western HO Railroad -
Connecting HO Railroad Freight & Passenger Operation Options

The GCW is a DC Block Controlled 22’ x 10’ Basement Layout consisting of 350 locomotives and over 1000 pieces of rolling stock - both freight and passenger. The GCW is now in the process of being completely re-wired with a new control panel and manual signal system. The layout itself has been remodeled from a larger layout that was downsized and modified into an old Atlas inspired double main layout. This figure-eight layout allows for two-direction train operation requiring operations coordinated around traffic thru three diamonds. There are numerous options for switching operations, including a Hulett Unloader dock serving a 500” lake freighter. It also has a reversing loop and allows for reverse traffic crossovers between the two mains. All 350+ locomotives are straight DC, but half of them are DCC compatible. The change to has not made the DCC change because of the large number of vintage DC units that GCW has and the fact that, as a Lone Wolf Railroad Baron, the GCW layout suits the needs for rail enjoyment.
